Shooting Cocktails

We love shooting drinks. The artful combination of liquids, ice and fire is a great opportunity to capture some dramatic images. Variety in glassware and the liquid’s effect on light transmission makes it a challenge that we revel in.

Generally speaking, shooting food and drink usually requires a nice patch of available light, but this is not always readily available in a restaurant or bar. We have been using studio lights on location for over a decade so are able to effectively and quickly light a bar for a cocktail shoot, controlling the light to produce dramatic and crisp images.

The key to photographing drinks well is understanding how light can pass through the glass and make the colour and contents pop. When setting up to shoot drinks always place the main light behind the glassware, this allows the light to pass through and give a lovely glow to the drinks.

Below are a bunch of shots taken from recent shoots, predominantly lit with studio flash – hope you enjoy, and if you are a looking for a drinks shoot do get in touch.

Cheers!
