Recently my travels have taken me to Dubai to shoot food for Spinneys Food Magazine for the lovely people at John Brown Media. I spent two days shooting some really beautiful food, including wedding cake alternatives and some really lovely restaurant food at Taste Kitchen and Hakkasan Dubai. The first shoot was styled by the very talented Amy Fullwood, the Deputy Food Editor. Spinneys is Dubai’s leading premium food retailer, and John Brown Media produce a beautiful monthly customer magazine called Food.
Day 01: After arriving the day before and having a quick look around town, the next day was spent in a beautiful display kitchen in Downtown Dubai, where Amy put together a bunch of stunning alternatives to the traditional wedding cake. The light in Dubai was beautiful and clear, and all of the work I shot was using available window light.
Day 02: In the morning we headed out to the desert to a very nice restaurant called Taste Kitchen. The restaurant was modern, and the food was very creative and made with the freshest ingredients. We had a great shoot with Nick and Scott, a couple of true gents.
My whirlwind tour of shooting food photography in Dubai ended at Hakkasan. The restaurant interior was extraordinary, and beautifully lit. Chef Andy Toh Chye Siong cooked up some exquisite food for me to shoot, with the images produced to be used in an article celebrating Chinese New Year. The restaurant is split up into the bar, lounge and terrace and the menu has dishes tailored specifically to the Emirate clientele as well as their amazing signature dishes. The two days I spent in Dubai were fantastic, and I am planning on heading back later on this year for a few more shoots.
Thanks very much to Emily, Amy and Murrindie from Spinneys Food Magazine and John Brown Media for showing me around and making me feel so welcome! Thanks also to the lovely people at Taste Kitchen and Hakkasan Dubai for keeping me going with coffee and tasty food, was great to work with you guys, see you again soon!
