An Honour to Have Been Included

I was thrilled to be part of Collect, a group exhibition at The Lock-Up gallery in Newcastle. Collect brought together artists whose work explored themes of accumulation, preservation, and storytelling through objects and images. Curated with a thoughtful and diverse selection of pieces, the exhibition created a dialogue between different artistic practices, each reflecting a unique perspective on what it means to collect.

For this exhibition, I created a special darkroom print of my image Mangrove Propagules—a 900mm x 900mm silver gelatin print that captured the delicate yet resilient nature of these remarkable plants. The process of printing this piece in the darkroom was an opportunity to slow down and engage deeply with the materiality of the image, reinforcing the connection between the natural world and the handmade photographic print. Curator of Collect, Isabel Whittle, described the exhibition as “a celebration of artists who engage with objects and imagery in ways that reveal deeper narratives about place, memory, and meaning.” It was an honour to have my work included in this collection, alongside other artists who shared a passion for storytelling through their craft.
